Hope everyone is faring well.

It's been quite a while since i've done any real update. I've either been too preoccupied and distracted with family matters or just not feeling up to it, so here goes.

Last month on the 13th, my grandma, who has raised me since I was 3 months old and is like my mom to me, was diagnosed with lung cancer. It's in it's early stages, but it has spread to her liver. Yesterday when she went to the doctors they found it was now in her upper lungs, so they want to begin chemotherapy. Diana (soror_pec) and myself have to fatten her up a bit before they can, because she only weighs 97 lbs. and chemo at that weight for her would make her seriously ill. Regardless of what the future holds, i'll be with her to look out for her and help her however I can. And when she passes, which hopefully wont be for years to come, i'm leaving Charlotte- the place I was born and have lived all my life.

Also last month, I spent the week from the 16th through the 23rd in the intensive care unit at the hospital. I made friends with sooooo many nurses lol, but it also sucked because I was terribly homesick. Diana and my Gramma came to visit every day, and even my Dad popped in a couple of times. When I was admitted on the 16th I was already in DKA (Diabetic Ketoacitosis) and my weight was a frightening 96.5 lbs(!). Since then i've managed to pick up to 119.2. My goal is 130.

So, during my stay, they figured out that Diabetes was not the cause of my metabolic abnormality, and was itself the symptom of yet another disease- the uber rare lipodystrophy. They did take me off the oral meds and put me on insulin shots, which I am actually happy about, because I have a few less food restrictions now ^_^

Well, i'm off for coffee and a snack. Be well everyone.

Thank you, and i've no plans to stop hanging on *g*. And thank you also for well-wishing my gramma, she means the world to me- even if she does push my buttons to their limits (and worse, she does it for kicks lol).

Most likely the move would be to Stanfield, a small country town in Stanley county. Just lots of trees, fields and moo-moo's :) So, its not a far move. Though there is one other possibility- the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland wants to study me, all travel and living expenses paid by them and i'm seriously concidering it. If I do, who is to say I wouldn't like it up there?

Anyway, thank you again for the concern and well wishing chic. Hope you guys are doing well! Take care :)

Chin-up!

Sorry to hear you have been going through such difficult times. Here's hoping things work out well for you and that your grandma tolerates the treatment well.

Re: Chin-up!

Heya Starshine! Long time no speak :)

Thank you also for the well wishes for my gramma, and yeah, things have been improving for me- but i'm not one to just lay down and feel sorry for myself :)

So how have you been this past little while that i've not been around? Faring well I trust?

Take care :)

Well, lots going on for you right now, interesting times as they say, but perhaps at least the new diagnosis will make a big difference in terms of staying healthy. :-)

Heya Bro! 93's...

Interesting times indeed.

but perhaps at least the new diagnosis will make a big difference in terms of staying healthy. :-)

Definately. The most obvious and immediate benefit being my increase in body weight, which was very low before. And speaking of that, i'm closer to my goal of 130- I weighed in at 121 yesterday :)

Anyway, hope all is well on your side of the net! Take care :)

Damn chick, thank you.

As to gramma's weight, she's already gained a couple of pounds. It's gonna be slow going, but we *will* get her there. Your comments about my strength... I really needed to hear that this morning, which is why the first thing I typed was the thank you. I had to do a very difficult thing overnight which dampened my heart. Your words helped in lifting it back up. Valda had to use the bathroom earlier this night and couldnt get up off the toilet... I had to help her up, so that's what troubled me so much. Could be that there will be more of that in the future, could be that there will not. Hopefully its the latter, but regardless, I have to be prepared, and I have to be strong for two people now.

And i am always a phone call away if you or Diana or Gramma should ever need me!!

And thank you also for that. Right now I feel like I need every member of my 'support group' that is able to extend themselves. Very difficult times, but we know that i've always refused giving up- and that still holds!

Where are you thinking of moveing to?

Likely, Stanfield. D's parents as a matter of fact- mom and pop want us to move there. Other than that, Bethesda, Maryland is a likely possibility- temporarily at least, though long term perhaps if I decide to go. The NIH wants to study me because of the rarity of this disease, and they have an experimental treatment which is not avaliable in pharmacies or hospitals. No expenses for me either, they pay my travel expenses, rent, transpo, food, medicines- all of it. Its appealing though, simply because others who have or will have this condition stand to benefit, as well as myself.

Wish i could have made it to see you when you were in ICU but thats past and i am glad your feeling better.

Well, I admit to being terribly lonely in there, and if not for D and Gramma I woulda went a bit daft I think lol. But I too am glad that I am feeling better, and thanks ^_^

Take care of yourself and your wonderful wife Diana and your Gramma.Let her know i am thinking of her and that i do care about her no matter what she put me through when we lived together thats the past.

Speaking of that... she will become my wife (officially) this October *g*. I'll give more details later as they develope. And I will pass along the message to Valda.

Thanks for being a friend chic. You take care, and all the best to you and Angel.

*hugs to ya both*
